Geo’s History
- 2003 Hutchison Whampoa completes the purchase of 186k’s UK optical fibre network assets from Lattice plc
- 2004 Geo launched, selling dedicated fibre data networks
- 2005 Acquisition of Urband, owner of the newest metropolitan fibre network in London, based in the sewer system. New customers included Vtesse, BT (for O2) and Lancaster University
- 2006 Geo.Metro ethernet and fibre services launched in London. New revenue streams established contracting to build new optical fibre networks. New customers included CSC, Tiscali and Fujitsu
- 2007 Milestone passed of £125m in contracted new business. A collaboration was agreed with the Welsh Assembly Government for the build and operation of a 200 mile optical fibre network across North Wales. New customers included Talk Talk Technology, London Internet Exchange, Cogent and several major financial institutions
- 2008 Geo sold to Alchemy for £62m, new customers included Computacentre, BlueSquare
- 2009 Network expanded over 3,000km. Skipton Building Society becomes Geo’s 100th customer. New customers include Gyron Internet, Secura Hosting and Taylor Wessing
- 2010 Project announced to deliver fibre to the home in Manchester. New customers include DentonWildeSapte and Stream Communications. Geo commences the construction of a new subsea fibre network to connect to Dublin
- 2011 Geo celebrates 5 years without a cable cut. Finalist in the UK Customer Experience Awards. Second route to Ireland commenced with EirGrid. New customers include national networks for ITV and bet365, Lebara and Surf Telecoms.
- 2012 Geo completes The East-West Ring, the newest, diverse and fully resilient subsea route to Ireland. New customers include EdgeCast, Nuffield Health, iomart and LDeX.
