The Geo sewer story
One of Geo’s key differentiators is our agreement with Thames Water to deploy our London fibre optic network through their sewer system. We are currently the only network provider with this strategic agreement in place, meaning that our network runs up to 12 metres below ground, rather than just below the surface where many of our competitors’ infrastructures lie.
What does this mean to you? Well, the position of our cable means that your data does not suffer from surface disruption. Every time a utility provider, or other telecoms supplier, needs to access their infrastructure, they must navigate through the intricate and crowded web of cables just below the pavement.
And, accidents do happen. A drill slips and severs a cable…a duct might break whilst engineers try to reach pipes lying below…a heavy boot may rest on a delicate pipe…it’s easy to see how too many companies regularly experience outages or disruptions to service with their current supplier. At Geo this is virtually eradicated, our London network is buried so deep that in fact, it has only suffered one cable cut since we began operating it in 2005.
It also means that wherever your location in London, getting our network to you involves minimum digging or fuss – which is great news for fellow Londoners and the environment.
We sometimes get asked how the cable runs through sewers. Our routes follow the large main sewers which are high enough to walk through. Our cables are secured at shoulder height in the sewer using our own developed clips, not lying loose on the floor like some of the regional fibre providers, to keep them safe from the trampling feet of the occasional engineer. But that’s not enough. We’re currently developing an innovative sewer lining to house the fibre, which has the added advantage of protecting the longevity of the sewers for Thames Water.
You go to great lengths ensure the quality of the data for your business. Why risk that hard work by using unreliable network infrastructures? Contact Geo and be assured of the best, fastest and safest transit around London.
