UK - Ireland: Project Progress
Southern route: In partnership with ESB Telecoms
In 2010, plans were revealed to build the newest, low latency subsea fibre network across the Irish Sea, in collaboration with Irish partner ESB Telecoms.
The extensive marine survey undertaken allowed us to plan and design the most secure cable route and to choose the best cable specification to match. The global cable experts Nexans are manufacturing the high performance 96 fibre cable. Take a closer look at how it’s done:
After years of extensive work in the development of the cable system, which included establishing a successful and fully funded joint venture in mid-2011 and securing two high profile initial customers, we are pleased to announce that in early 2012 the cable will be ready for service with the project already in its final stages:
• The cable manufacturing is nearing completion
• The terrestrial work is already underway in the UK and Ireland
• The Welsh licence has been granted
• Crossing agreements are in place
• All the remaining permits and the appointment of the marine installer are on track for the end of the year
