UK - Ireland: Project Progress

Northern route: Exclusive partner to EirGrid

In April, an exclusive collaboration with EirGrid, Ireland’s electricity system operator and developer was announced to commercialise fibre optic cable on the East-West Interconnector, an electricity link between Rush, Dublin and Prestatyn, Wales.

Bundled and buried together with the power transmission cable, is an ultra-secure, high specification G.654 fibre optic cable, which will be used to provide near limitless connectivity solutions.

Inland the subsea cable will connect with newly constructed terrestrial networks on which work is already underway, extending Geo’s network footprint right into the heart of Dublin.

This initiative forms part of Geo’s diverse Irish Sea network and is anticipated to go live September 2012.
