Geo Networks announced as flagship network provider into UK Grid’s ‘Parkway 2’ data centre

Deal is latest announcement in Geo’s continued network expansion across Manchester

London, United Kingdom, 18 January 2011. Geo Networks (Geo), a leading provider of fibre optic networks for heavy data users, today announced that it had secured its position as debut fibre connectivity provider into UK Grid’s ‘Parkway 2’ data centre in Manchester.

The data centre is Manchester’s largest with more than 27,000 square feet of co-location space, securing UK Grid’s position as the leading provider of data centre space in the region with over 50,000 square feet of carrier neutral data centre space in its portfolio.  Located in the heart of the city, Parkway 2 has been designed to have the lowest possible environmental impact, offsetting energy to be 100% carbon neutral and demonstrating outstanding energy efficiency through technology and equipment innovation.

In 2010, Geo announced its connectivity to Telecity’s IFL3, as well as a pilot project with Manchester Digital Development Agency to provide a network infrastructure to the Oxford Road area, to enable homes and businesses to benefit from fibre connectivity. This new deal with UK Grid further strengthens Geo’s commitment to Manchester businesses, to be the supplier of choice for first class, dedicated fibre networks.

“Manchester is now the epicentre of technology and commerce outside of London,” says Mark Ryder, Director of Enterprise at Geo. “The MDDA pilot and the advent of new business hubs including MediaCity, clearly confirms Manchester’s attractiveness to data-intensive businesses. We’re delighted to be working once again with UK Grid and to have been chosen as its first customer for this critical new data centre”.
