Server synchronisation

The Business Problem

One of the UK’s largest global banks was looking for a provider to deliver a seven-year fully managed, dedicated network solution to connect three of their data centres; two in London and one new centre outside the M25.

This was needed to give the bank’s customers a secure, reliable network – one capable of handling enormous amounts of financial data. The bank needed physically diverse, secure routes and low latency – all essential to guarantee connectivity, disaster recovery and synchronous replication of data at the new centre. It would also need timely capacity upgrades as and when required.

Our Solution

We successfully designed, built and now manage a robust WDM transmission network connecting the two existing London data centres to the new site outside the M25.

Based on four physically diverse and separate fibre routes, this next-generation network is managed by our 24×7×365 Network Operation Centre (NOC), which also provides dedicated customer service agents and monthly metric reports.

The new network allows the bank to have key data centres outside of London with the ultimate in data protection – reducing operational risks through physically separate network routes. Finally, the network was pre-provisional to enable capacity upgrades within five days.

The Benefits

With a dedicated, next generation fibre network the bank can respond instantly to changing business needs.

Other benefits include:

  • Capacity to meet any future network demands
  • Resilient network with virtually 100 percent availability
  • Additional services are low cost and easy to apply
  • Plenty of headroom for further additional services
  • Low latency at less than 1 millisecond round trip (including equipment)
