Service Providers
ISPs – increasing the volume
The Internet service provider market in the UK is a hard arena to compete in. There are hundreds of providers up and down the country in competition with each other to deliver Internet services to homes and businesses.
Consumers are taking for granted that their cut-price monthly fee will allow them to download complex content whenever they want it. And at enterprise level, ISPs must match the need of businesses for high speed links and a range of added value services.
Forward thinking ISPs are now seeing the ownership of a core dedicated fibre network as the answer to their prayers. Only connectivity offering the capacity, security and control that fibre can deliver is up to the challenges they face.
The sheer volume of traffic faced by ISPs means that it is now economically advantageous for them to design and own their own dedicated fibre networks. Not only do the economies of scale equate to a much lower total cost of ownership, this path also enables them to add additional wavelengths as and when they are needed.
When an ISP decides to roll out their services to new cities and regions, owning their own network design and infrastructure gives the flexibility to achieve this strategic expansion without paying additional charges to a telco for further leased services. Independence like this is now not simple economically viable for ISPs, it’s a business imperative to help ensure survival in an uncertain future.
Owning and controlling their own network is simply the best way for an ISP to manage the massive shifting of data within their core networks in order to offer best levels of security and uptime to satisfy both business and consumer alike.
